Gavin Peden is a multidisciplinary creative from Belfast, working as a VR filmmaker, AV designer, actor, and experience designer for over 14 years. His work explores the intersections of live performance, technology, and immersive storytelling, creating experiences that engage audiences emotionally and physically. Gavin is currently Managing Director of Ionoverse, a Belfast-based company exploring the evolving relationship between audience experience and technology.
His practice spans theatre, VR, film, and site-specific performance, with work presented across Ireland, England, Canada, France, Sweden, New York, and Philadelphia. Recent projects include Upside Down House (Tinderbox Theatre), Granny Jackson’s Dead (Big Telly Theatre), The Afters (immersive VR exploring consent), and Too Many Doors (VR examining housing and domestic violence in collaboration with ESC Films and Housing Rights NI). Gavin adapted site-specific theatre into VR with The House VR, exploring trans-generational trauma, showcased at SXSW.
Performance highlights include his one-man show And You Will Stand on Windswept Beaches and appearances in Good Vibrations (Lyric Theatre, Belfast; IAC, New York). Selected for creative residencies in Paris and Northern Sweden, he continues to develop immersive VR films. His AV and design work spans theatre, opera, and film, reflecting a commitment to experimentation, collaboration, and interdisciplinary storytelling that challenges perceptions and fosters empathy.
